apartment help

Hi

I am looking for an apartment to rent for a week in Sept. I would like it to be modern and have a pool. I have searched for hours and have not found anything suitable! In Spain and Portugal there are loads of apartment blocks with pools an other facilities - does this type of accomodation exist in Nice? I have found loads of nice apts using the websites that are regularly suggested but they all seem to be individual apt. I have not found an actual block of rental apts with pool.

I appreciate any help.

I just did a quick search on holiday-rentals.com and found 49 apartments %26#39;in%26#39; Nice with a pool. This site allows you to refine your search by bedrooms, pool etc, you might find something here:

Some of the complexes that have pools and tennis courts etc are up in the hills in the outskirts of Nice which is fine if that%26#39;s what you want. If you want to be IN Nice and near to everything, including public transport, then you need to check exact locations carefully.

In middle/late Sept, a car might be the answer if you are out of Nice a bit, I wouldn%26#39;t recommend one in the summer though.

The sea is still warm enough to swim in in September. (Although I find it cold all year round!)

best wishes

Hi

Thank you so much for your quick reply! I will go and have a look. I normally always rent a car when I go on hols but I have read so much about Nice and the transport links I was not going to bother. I would like to be near the centre and able to walk to most places and have a pool................. I hope.

hello again

I have seen a nice aparment on La Rue Droite - is this a nice area to be in? I want to be able to walk around. I know it does not have a pool but it does look nice. I will keep looking ..............

Try typing Studio-Royal Luxembourg into your search engine. I think this studio is on the Promenade des anglais and has a pool. I remember seeing it on awebsite once but it was too small for the four of us.

It was near the Cours Saleya and the Old Town.

Rue Droite is in the Old Town of Nice, narrow street, high sided buildings, dating back to mediaeval times, so it will likely be shady and cool and possibly dark, which is what you need on a hot day. It%26#39;s a pedestrianised road, with a fairly high tourist count passing by and is full of individual art galleries and the Palais Lascaris - now a museum - a Nicoise version of a small inner city stately home. It would be a nice place to stay, you are certainly very close for everything and it will be full of atmosphere. I love the buzz of city life so it would be a good choice for me, might be a bit quieter in Sept which might be even nicer. Expect a few motorbikes, higher up the floor levels would be quieter perhaps.

If you need a pool, there%26#39;s a public one in the middle of the Old Town by the fish market Place St Francoise, a few minutes walk from rue Droite or there%26#39;s the sea about 3 minutes walk away.

It could be good but will possibly be the opposite of you were originally seeking - modern with a pool!

The Royal that Scensitive mentions, I *think* that is one of the 49 apartments listed in my first reply to you with the link...

Look for the one that describes it%26#39;s position on the Prom between the Casino Rhul and the Negresco - I%26#39;m sure that just about places it at the location of the Royal-Luxembourg residence. Although it%26#39;s a %26#39;modern%26#39; residence, it looks quite old now, so check to see if any renovations have taken place, and when, if you find some apartments there or accept that they might be a bit dated.

Thank you both for your very quick replies - I really appreciate your help.

I agree it is the opposite of what I was originally looking for but this apt looked nice inside. No pool or balcony though for sitting outside.

I like the look of the Goldstar suites - but they are a bit expensive!

I had a look at the Royal Lux - but fully booked in Sept - all dates! Location looked good, but not too sure about the sofa bed - am I being fussy??

It depends, is it a studio you are looking for? That is, just one room does all, like a hotel so often a sofa bed gives you a bit more room during the day.

Also, it depends on the sofa bed too. I have a studio in Nice and we sold our double bed to have a sofa bed instead, we decided we wanted the space, however, it%26#39;s a fancy, expensive leather sofabed with a mattress suitable for longterm use not %26#39;occasional use%26#39; like some sofa beds. Also, when my sofa bed opens, the sheets and pillows are already there, no need to make a bed every night.

So, you could ask about the mechanics of the sofabed, also if there is a balcony or if the studio is big and has other chairs, not just a sofa for sitting, you might be able to leave it as a bed and not convert it back to a sofa and use the balcony as your living room.

Studios with sofa beds are priced for 2 people sharing. If you want a bedroom and proper double bed, then you need to look for a 1-bedroomed apartment, not a studio. The 1-beds are often priced for 4 people staying, with the idea that the other couple (short straw) will be in the living area on the sofabed and it will cost you more.

By the way, as you seemed to like the idea of ran apartment in the Old Town, you might like to have a look at nicepebbles.com website - very clear and careful descriptions and mostly in the Old Town. Just to throw a spanner in the works I%26#39;m sure they also offer an apartment with a pool in Cros de Cagnes, just along from Nice the other way from the aiport. Anyway, you could have a browse and see if there is something there you like.
