Best places to get a good meal

My husband and I will be in Lyon next week (eek! can%26#39;t wait) and I was hoping for some advice as to where we can get good and affordable meals.

We are staying at Apart%26#39;Hotel Citadines Lyon Presqu%26#39;ile located at 2 Rue Thomassin, Lyon (I thought we were at a different hotel in a previous post - this is the correct one). We%26#39;re in town for two nights.

I%26#39;ve heard that Lyon is a great place for those who love food because there are amazing chefs - we%26#39;d like to experience various levels of restaurants, so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes Lyon is famous for its gastronomy. Do you want a couple of affordable restaurant or amazing chefs (that are not cheap as you can imagine)?

May I suggest that you try a local %26quot;bouchon%26quot; with regional specialities and a very casual atmosphere: type this word in the search box and you will find several recommendations already on the forum (or just browse the recent posts). You will also find lists of my favourite places, follow for example this link:

Thank you, only-lyon. I%26#39;ve gone to those other links and copied down your suggestions.

Another question for you: Do you know if there are any brew pubs in Lyon? Or spots that serve locally-produced beer?

While we both enjoy wine, my husband is a big beer lover and enjoys trying new beers in new areas.

Yes there is a pub chain that brews its own beer (that is very good). It is called %26quot;Ninkasi%26quot; and you will find several Ninkasi cafés in the city center:

Oh, he will be very pleased to hear this. Thank you!

Just returned from 2 night stay..Try Le Neuf du fous on Rue Bouef in Vieux Lyon down the stree from La Tour Rose. Had a wonderful meal there last week. It is a gem of a place - complete meal for around 25 euro. Make a reservation (we walked by that day and were actually asked which table we wanted for the evening!). It is obviously not a tourist spot like some others in Vieux Lyon appears to be. At 10 Pm they were actually turning people away. Menu is very mediterranean. Wonderful. Also had a great lunch at Le Hablionnere right in Presque Ille - forgot the street but in an area with lots of bouchons around the corner fro Les Lyonnais (heard this is a good place to try as well) . Try somewhere along Rue Mercier. We at at Bistro de Lyon, I am on the fence about recommending since the veal dish I got looked like someones leftovers (not kidding)! and I saw the waiter take my bread away, take out the broken piece then serve the rest to another table. My husbands meal though was very good and the Lyonnaise salad was probably the best salad I ever ate - never thought a bacon and egg salad would be so delicious! I don%26#39;t think though that one could have a bad meal anywhere there! Have fun!!
