Antibes apartment locations

Hello everyone,

I am offered apartment rentals in antibes, however I don%26#39;t know the areas well. Any advice could be helpful.

1 by the antibes train station: is this a noisy location because of train or cars? what about walking there? are there side walks avenue de la Liberation? About 800m walk to Gravette beach and has free shuttle to Ponteil and Salis. It is very close to Port Vauban.

2 in old antibes very close to the market and short walk to the Gravette beach, but no elevator and 3rd floor. We have a 5 years old with us.

3 on boulevard Marechal Foch, not a fancy apartment but about 500m from Ponteil beach.

Which place would be the most practical one from overall perspective? We will be using train and buses to visit and we are beach lovers, but it is also important to have some food stores or supermarkets and late evening walks.

if you are going to be travelling around by train a lot though consider the walks back and forth with a tired 5 year old

Old town near market - communal areas in old town apartments can be quite odd/rickety seeming at times and 3rd floor will be a fair hike up but a 5 year old should be fine, except when tired.

where exactly is the apartment near the station?

yes there are pavements/sidewalks at ave de la liberation

Foch isn%26#39;t the most attractive street but its handy for most things.

There are plenty of food stores in antibes -mini markets to supermarkets. A provencal produce market every morning but monday a good clothes/shoes/bagsetc market on thursday mornings

And plenty of places to go for evening walks - by old port and marina or on the ramparts or along salis/ponteil, round cap d%26#39;antibes or over to juan les pins etc

1. It depends which apartment building it is by the train station and which way the apartment is facing...there is an apartment building overlooking the station on the main intersection that would be noisy, but another facing the port that would be fine.

2. The market area has the most charm and is the best area for strolling around at night, and would be the closest to Gravette beach.

3. Bd Foch is not a very attractive street and a little further to a nice evening walk, but the closest to Salis and Ponteil.

But all the apartments are really within about a 15 minute walk of each other, they are all close to food stores/supermarkets.

Ask the owners for exact address and then go to google maps and drag the yellow man to the address and you will be able to see the street view.

Hi chebourashka -You will probably find the Old Town - with its undoubted charm and unique character - is actually the noisiest as people eat out late here - and late around the Place Nationale and near the market in summer and on weekends is 2 am and later! There are about 50 restaurants in the Old Town. Then the bin men start collecting the bins around 5am six days a week.

As I live around the corner from Avenue de la Liberation I can tell you it is no more than 10 / 15 mins walk from (a) the beach at La Gravette to which you can walk either along the yacht quays or the normal sidewalks, (b) the Provencal market in the old town ( c) two large supermarkets - Intermarche and Champion. With a convenience type Petit Casino ( much more expensive but very handy) on the doorstep. The prime attraction is probably that the station ( for Cannes, Nice, Monaco etc) is just across the steet and you can catch most buses from there too. There are also 6 restaurants in the area from a Pizzeria to Indian if you dont feel like walking into town.

I will point out that the Avenue Soleau is a busy street as it is the main road into town so there is some kind of traffic noise from here all the time, altho Avenue de la Liberation itself is not too busy - it is one way only.

As has been said the Marechal Foch area is probably the least attractive - nothing nasty but somewhat dull - but I would think it may be the quietest if that is a major consideration.

Hello everyone,

What a great input! I know the apartment is definitely not in the big buildings facing the train station.

It is actually facing the port and old Antibes. So, from descriptions looks like it would be the other building across the street someone mentioned previously and not directly on the corner. So, it is very close to the train station.

I don%26#39;t know how noisy the trains are in France in general? We have taken the tgv and it displaced quite a bit of air around, so how is it usually in terms of vibration and noise?

The streets don%26#39;t look too bad and I expect a certain level of noise, as it is a European town, so trash bins collectors everywhere, motorcycles, etc..

The apartment in the old town by the market will almost certainly be the noisiest -from folk talking as they wander home late at night , bin men in the early hours and then market traders starting early and they never lower their voices as the shout %26#39;salut%26#39; to each other and ujnload their vans - but on the other hand it will probably also have the most charm and history and %26#39;je ne sais quoi%26#39;

Strangely enough the trains are fairly quiet - or maybe I have got used to them. The TGVs don%26#39;t run at night but there is an occasional long heavy goods trundling through. Yes... those noisy motorcyles and scooters .. these can be very annoying and may fall into the category of being part of what France is all about ... like incontinent dogs and Edith Piaf. I hear the authotities are cracking down on them ( noisy motorcycles that is, not the dogs...) but no doubt this will be a long term process.
