Hello There,
My partner and I are off to France for a few days armed with a cheap tent and a hire car! We will be near Avranches for the first few days and then plan to spend 4 days in Brittany. Can anyone recommend any campsites or suggest anywhere lovely to see and visit? We don%26#39;t want to do too much driving...!!
Many thanks in advance.

We use Keycamp, stay in mobile homes, which is different from what you are planning, but all of the sites with mobile homes will have tent sites as well.
The only issue you may have is that sites will be starting to close for the winter.
There is a lovely site called Camping lez Eaux and I can recommend it. Its a short distance from Avranches but closes on the 26th September http://www.lez-eaux.com/
The Cotentin Peninsula (where Avranches is) is lovely. You are close to the American D-Day beaches (Utah and Omaha).
You are also close to Mont St. Michel, which is a must-see.
Also drive down towards St. Malo. Visit Dinan, a lovely medieval town. Chateau des Ormes is a big site near here. Nice pool, nice restaurants http://www.lesormes.com/ However the camping area is now closed.
Perros Guirec - Le Ranolien also is a nice site, but again closed from the end of this week http://www.leranolien.fr/accueil-en.htm
I think you%26#39;ll find that most campsites will be closed/closing by now. Perhaps consider an alternative if you are travelling in September - perhaps fly further South.

Well, I can%26#39;t tell you anything about campsites, but I can%26#39;t beleive that they will ALL be closing down now.
Try and go to your local Library and pick up a Rough Guide or Lonely Planet Guide to Brittany, they should be of use regarding campsites!
The Cote Granit Rose and the Cote Emeraud are probably the closest %26#39;interesting%26#39; coastal places to Avranches.
IF you can stand a bit of driving that is not too difficult, head south (within Brittany) to Carnac which, as well as lovely beaches, has loads of standing stones and prehistoric dolmen that are quite spectacular to see.

PS - if you are really stuck for camping, but want cheap accommodation for a few days, then consider staying in a Formule1 or Etap Hotel, they are cheap, but reasonable for a couple of days, and at least give you a safe and cozy base for exploring a particular area, even if they do tend to be on the outskirts of towns, or at motorway services.
