Nice villages/towns – dramatic landscape

Dear friends,

For the upcoming one-week stay in Antibes, we plan to rent a car for a day or two to visit nice/ quaint villages and towns plus see some dramatic landscape. So far we have the following list, realizing that we can’t cover everything:

St Paul de Vence, Tourettes sur Loup, Gourdon, Grasse, Peillon, Castellane, Menton, Haut de Cagnes, Villeneuve-Loubet. As for nature drama we plan to see Gorges du Verdon and maybe Gorges sur Loup.

Are there places to add or remove from this list?

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

On your list i%26#39;m guessing that must be the mediaeval village of villeneuve-loubet-don%26#39;t go to the modern town by mistake

You could also head out to somewhere like st martin vesubie or tende or entrevaux for more mountian scenery wih mediaveal villages.

Entrevaux is particularly impressive -the vllage itself and its setting.

Another village which I%26#39;ve stumbled upon was Ste Agnes which is the highest coastal village in Europe and looks down to the sea from behind Menton. From the Menton side you can drive up though it%26#39;s a bit of a goat track road or I guess you might approach from the other side. Interesting find there was the remains of the Maginot Line still standing from WWII. More info here - http://www.beyond.fr/villages/steagnes.html

Two further thoughts. some will disagree but Eze village is very spectacular right on the Moyenne Corniche between Monaco and Nice. It has some very elite hotels and fabulous views. It%26#39;s quite tarted up but is/was a true village. As you are going to Gorge de Verdon don%26#39;t miss Moustieres St Marie which is just a little further on past the Lac St Croix at the western end of the gorge. Again touristic but very pleasant. Anything good these days is bound to be visited by tourists.

Sounds a lot for just %26#39;a day or two%26#39; with a car to me, but a good list. I like St P, Tourettes, love Gourdon and Menton, not keen on Grasse.

I would second a visit to Moustieres Ste Marie if you do visit the Gorges du Verdon. Famous for the pottery, and also for the chain strung across with the star hanging from it.

Depending on your route, Fox Amphoux is an interesting little place; but so many things to see and so little time on each visit!

I don%26#39;t want to teach my Granny to suck eggs (although I%26#39;m more likely to be the Granny!), but do stop and spend time taking life in as well as going from place to place; photos/videos are not as good as soaking things up personally.

Have a lovely trip,

Jo

Thanks for all your valuable comments and ideas.

Yes, I know that the %26quot;list%26quot; is a tad on the ambitious side but with all these good added ideas, We%26#39;ll have a godd assortment to choose from.

Also: am aware of the need to get a fair balance between %26quot;need to see%26quot; and %26quot;enjoy%26quot;, I use my camera for much of the %26quot;need to see%26quot; stuff, and can enjoy sitting down at a café, just doing nothing but ..... enjoy.

Thanks
