Hi All, I will be visiting Paris solo next May for 9 nights and have decided to stretch the budget *a bit* to allow for an apartment rental. I%26#39;m in my 30s and prefer lively, vibrant environments to quieter ones. Easy access to metro, grocers, patisseries, flower markets, cafes/bistros, etc would be great.
What are your thoughts on:
Marais, 37 Rue St. Paul

or
St-Germain Des Pres, between Rue de Seine and Rue Mazarine
http://www.vrbo.com/15740
Also, I%26#39;m assuming their rather lower high season rates are due to the lack of elevator. I don%26#39;t mind suffering a bit to save a little $$ ;).
Any feedback would be appreciated!

I%26#39;d lean toward the Marais one. It%26#39;s larger, has two rooms and a bath tub as well as a shower. The other one is more of a studio rather than an apartment.
Both locations are good. But after 9 days you might appreciate the extra space in the Marais one.

Based solely on the webpages, I would prefer the Marais apt. -- it%26#39;s significantly larger, has a separate bedroom and is more attractively decorated. It looks like, from the Google street view, that it will get some nice natural light for at least part of the day.

I would pick the Marais apartment. Very cute!
Have fun.

With all respect, I will say that I am of the opposite opinion and would go for the St Germain apt. Rue St Paul has a lot of car traffic, which I don%26#39;t like. I also prefer the Marais farther to the west of this location--it%26#39;s more lively there in the evening. Rue Seine/Rue Mazarine has a lot of street life late into the evening.
You%26#39;re alone, so I don%26#39;t think the extra space is that much of a plus.
Since you have the exact address for the Marais location, do a street view on google maps. You%26#39;ll see what i mean.

I really appreciate everyone%26#39;s input. I%26#39;m going cross-eyed trying to sift through these listings! I%26#39;m leaning towards the Marais unit for the look %26amp; space of the unit and the casual feel/street life of the neighbourhood (based on my Google street view walk lol). I can see myself coming %26quot;home%26quot; to this area.
Can anyone advise if the pedestrian traffic/street life is still humming at 11pm+ weeknights on the corner of Rue St. Paul %26amp; Rue St. Antoine? Or do things get pretty quiet in the evening?

Jim, thanks for the information - that%26#39;s just around the corner...as long as it%26#39;s not completely deserted when I walk back to the apt at night, I should be fine lol. I%26#39;m starting to get jazzed about the location...the variety of food shops %26amp; services must be so convenient.
Have fun on your next trip!
