sarlat to avignon stopover

I am driving from Sarlat to Avignon and after checking the Michelin maps have realised that this is approx a 5 hour journey. This isn%26#39;t a problem, however I was wondering if there is any recommendation of a little town or village somewhere inbetween we could stop for a stroll or lunch to break up the day. If it was really pretty I would even stay the night, if you have any suggestions they would be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you had an interest in visiting one of the most beautiful bridges in the world then going via Millau would be a nice day or two. You could do it in one long day but it%26#39;d be a slog and the drive, especially from Sarlat to Millau (via Figeac and Rodez) is pretty. We stayed on the edge of the old cite and enjoyed our evening in Millau then visisted a couple of the leather goods factory outlets the next morning.

Thanks for the reply. I%26#39;ll have a look at those towns during my research.

Hi, what a good question, and the answer sounds a good idea. We will be driving from St Remy de Provence to Sarlat. (more or less the same as your trip). Via Michelin shows this is about 530 kims, and over 5 hours. Going via Millau breaks the trip just about in half! And we would get to see the wonderful bridge. We will research Millau also, and would stay one night en route. (We still laugh about taking the wrong turn from Honfleur - supposedly heading for Bayeux - and found oruselves on the fantastic Normandy Bridge in error!)

Hey Vivi,

There is a bridge over there that seems to cause alot of excitement. I haven%26#39;t started researching Millau yet and am very tempted to stay an extra night in Sarlat and do the whole 5 hour trip in one day with a lunch break. The more I read about the Dordgone the more keener I am on staying longer.
