Taxi to Villefranche

Hi,

Does anyone know the cost of a taxi from Nice airport to Villefranche for 4 people. Would it be cheaper to book a taxi from Villefranche, if so, can anyone put me touch with a local taxi firm. Would it be cheaper to hire a car from the airport for a couple of days?

Thanks in anticipation.

During the day the fare will be at least 60 euro. Villefranche taxis are no cheaper. Recently we hired a Fiat 500 without aircon for two days and the total cost came to just under 200 euro.

Nice St Augustin station is a 5/10 minute walk from Terminal 1 and the train will take you to Villefranche in 15 minutes for less than 2 euro each. There is a map showing the walking route on the airport website.

It is actually cheaper to rent a car for a few days then take the taxi. The train is a pain from the airport too.

I travelled to Villefranche recently (Sept 09) and the journey from Nice airport to Villefranche is not that difficult.

Key is getting to Nice St-Augustin station to meet a train that goes all the way to Villefranche (some only go to Nice Ville).

- Free shuttle bus from Terminal 2 to 1 Bus Terminal

- Turn right at Bus Terminal to end of terminal and get bus 23 (two stops) to Nice St-Augustin

- Train to Villefranche

Timetables from the airport website and if the connections work ok, journey can be 45 minutes or so.

If train to Villefranche is a while, get the first train to Nice Ville and have a coffee there while you wait for the Villefranche train !

I have used the train from St Augustin at least a hundred times and had to change at Nice only once. This only happens when trains are running very late, so that they decide to turn them around. No doubt I have been lucky as late trains are common. No train at all at St Augustin is more of a risk.
