Decision on dates to visit Paris

My husband will be a member of a wine study tour in southern France from Dec. 1 to Dec. 9, %26#39;09. I plan to join him in Paris either before his study tour, or after the tour. What are the advantages/disadvantages to these dates for our first time trip to Paris? We will want to experience the typical/usual Paris highlights. Dates are either

Nov. 26-30 (Thursday through Monday)

or

Dec. 9-13 (Wednesday through Sunday)

Many thanks for input.

I am nost sure when Christmas lights and decorations go up in store windows and on the streets,, but I bet they are up by Dec 1st through 13th.. so I would likely choose those dates..

I can%26#39;t recall the dates that the grand magasins decorate their windows either. That would be the only real difference.

This should be a priority to visit if you are there when they are decorated. I would recommend going in the early evening. It%26#39;s fun to watch the little children stand on the platforms and look at the animated window displays. It will be crowded so you may want to visit more than once. Maybe in the evening and once during the day.

Weather wise it won%26#39;t be great either time but who cares? Paris is amazing even if the weather isn%26#39;t.

Enjoy the trip.

I would think the weather and amount of daylight would be marginally better in November than December. Could shopping be busier in December given the proximity to the holidays?

I was in Paris last Nov 14-21 and the Christmas lights were up and on by the 19th. The windows at the department stores were also in full swing. I would go earlier than later. The weather was still good enough to take a night bike tour!

Especially if he is coming on a wine study tour, come to Paris over the weekend in November. That is the weekend of the Salon du Vin. Last fall was 3000 independent vinters and so much fun for the price of a glass. Already on my calendar!

The holiday lights go up early Nov. And the Salon du Vin is an EVENT!

Salun du Vin sounds like the perfect event for us. Can you provide me further details and/or website to gather info. Thanks!

6 euros, and remember to spit otherwise you will be destroyed before making it down an aisle.
