Cost for apartment in Paris for family

Hi all we are planning a trip to paris as 2 families of 4 and 2 grandparents in october and after much research I found 2 apartments in the 11th close to the Bastille Metro for 100 Euro a night each but my sister in law thinks this is too expensive. I thought this was a reasonably good price am I missing something???? I read a little about this area in some of the other posts and it seems to be a reasonable area. Any advice would be appreciated. As I have never been to Paris I am a little concerned that perhaps I am going down the wrong path. Also we have 2 small children (3 and 5) any advise on great things to do in Paris would be appreciated. We are already planning to go to Disneyland but looking for things specifically around Paris. Cheers.

Can you post a link to the two apartments? 100 euros per night for an apartment in Paris is not expensive, but it would help to actually see the apartments in question.

www.centreparis.com has apts. starting at around 60 euros per night, but most of them are studios that would be very tight quarters for a family of 4.

When you consider how many hotel rooms would be required for your group and how much the tab for them would be, I think €100 per night for each apartment is more than affordable. You could invite your SIL to take over the task of apartment selection so she can see just how well you have done with a very difficult brief and very little lead time.

Do a search here on the forum page for activities for children in Paris. There have been many threads on this topic. There are also a couple of guides specific to children%26#39;s activities in the city. Go to www.amazon.co.uk - they have two or three different ones in stock at the moment. Search in the book section for Paris with children.

Bonne chance et bon voyage.

Thank you both I feel a little better now. Perhap she will be beter off booking her own apartment. Will definitely go through the forums and look for things for our wee ones and perhaps check out those books too. Thanks a heap.

Make sure you don%26#39;t go for something TOO cheap as it might be a scam. There%26#39;s a good %26#39;sticky%26#39; on the London forum you might like to read through - much of the advice is universal.

I have been searching for weeks on many different sites and have been struggling to find anything other than studios for less than €100 a night. I too have started looking around the area you mentioned because the prices are better than other areas. So I think your SIL is living in dreamland , Paris is expensive.

FYI I priced staying in a 2 star hotel that we have stayed in previously, for a triple room I would be paying more than twice the weekly rental on a 1 bed apartment in the above area. The benefits include not having to pay for laundromat expenses, or wait around while the clothes are washing, being able to save money by self catering plus having twice as much space. It really a good way to do it. But..... €700 is a LOT of money when you are converting Aussie dollars so it is hard to get the head around!

As for things for hte kids to do, my 7yo LOVED the playground at Jardin du Lux but an earlier post mentioned some apparently superior kids parks, might be worth putting in the search function to find their names. Personally I wouldn%26#39;t take such little kids to Disneyland, sounds like torture for all cncerned but then, I%26#39;m really not into Theme Parks. They%26#39;re probably too little for the Egyptian collection at the Louvre, my 7yo liked that. The boat trip up the Seine may be a hit.

Have fun!

Okay now I am concerned because I just found out that the street we are looking at is full of bars and nightclubs. Arragh!!! Not sure that this is a good idea with 2 kids and 2 grandparents with us. I feel our paris trip is doomed before we even start. I will keep looking. Thankyou for your advice.

|||

No, not doomed at all. It just takes a lot of research - that, plus finally taking the plunge!

I%26#39;m going to Paris (a Yorkshified Scot, btw) in October and am staying in 11th, on rue de Lyon, just opposite Opera Bastille.

I angsted all over the place about streets safe for single women but in the end you just have to go for it. Your children won%26#39;t be out by themselves, the prevalence of bars and clubs won%26#39;t disturb them. (Don%26#39;t know about the grandparents lol!) and a lively street, if you%26#39;re out at night, means a safe street. (The board seems a bit edgy at the minute, so I make it clear I%26#39;m not implying other streets are not safe.)

I don%26#39;t know which appartments you%26#39;re looking at but the price seems good for a good location. Take a deep breath and go!

Meet you at the Bastille Metro - I%26#39;ll be the wee dumpy yin looking lost!

Just tell your SIL that 100€ equals approx. 87 British pounds. I am assuming you are coming from Scotland.

Aussie, have a look at this thread. It%26#39;s an option that may work for you. Note that about half way down the page you%26#39;ll see %26quot;Need more room?%26quot;. These are three apts all together. I%26#39;ve used Vacation In Paris apts for years and they are reasonably priced and very good to do business with. If these don%26#39;t work, call or email VIP. They%26#39;ll have something else that will work for you, I%26#39;m sure. Happy travels!
