Coming next week - itinerary help please?

Hello - we are coming to Normandy (staying in a gite near Lisieux) on Saturday for a week.

We are a couple in early 40s who like sightseeing, walking, countryside, nice meals and soaking up the ambiance.

We are coming in our own car by Eurotunnel and thought we would stop in Boulogne for lunch on the way down.

Other than that, we have no definite plans, but thought these should be on our schedule.

D-Day landing beaches

La Hague

Granville

Le Mont St. Michelle

The Bayeux tapestry

Caen

Deuville and Trouville

Honfleur

Giverny

Etretat

Rouen

Is this too much, or should we be able to take in all this in a week? Or have we missed any %26#39;mustsees%26#39;?

Any help gratefully received.

Many thanks, Heather

You can probably do it by grouping the visits as follows. Are you planning on a guided visit for the d-day beaches. You%26#39;ll regret not doing so.

The sites you plan on seeing are about 2 hours drive from Lisieux. I%26#39;ve added a day of visits but perhaps you haven%26#39;t got 7 days

The auto formatting spread everything out.

It should have been

Thanks so much for your detailed response. You are correct in your assumption that we don%26#39;t have a full 7 days - just Saturday to Saturday.

We hadn%26#39;t planned on a guided D-Day tour, but it is something I will look into - if you have any recommendations, that would be great.

Thanks again, I will research the days you have suggested in full.

Bon nuit, Heather

Hi -

Do a search for the D-Day tours here on this page. There are two or three companies that get good reviews.

If you don%26#39;t read Latin, be sure to use the audio guide at the Tapestry Museum in Bayeux.

Must sees are only must sees if you think they are. Otherwise they%26#39;re line items for the next trip.

For two of you the best option is a minibus tour. There about four companies doing such tours from Bayeux. And the the memorial do trips from Caen.

On reflection about the itineraries it might be better to put Granville with MSM, and cut St Lo.

La Hague is rocky coast line. There is the birth place of François Millet the painter. You might have a passionate desire to see the region but I%26#39;d recommend spending a day around Lisieux rather than a 4 hour return trip to see La Hague.

Unless you%26#39;re a real WW2 buff and particularly interested in the US sector then there is no real need to visit St Lo. It was flattened during the war and so is a 50%26#39;s concrete town. Don%26#39;t get me wrong, it%26#39;s our local town and I love it but it%26#39;s not of general tourist interest. There%26#39;s a great market on a Saturday but if you%26#39;re in Lisieux the Honfleur one is a lot closer. The only other reason to come to St Lo is if you are particularly interested in horses as it is home of one of the national studs (Haras).
