Best Route from Gare de Lyon to 2nd Arrondisement

I have checked the RATP website to find the best route to get from Gare de Lyon to rue Vivienne in the 2nd Arrondisement. The apartment we are renting is between Blvd. Montmartre and rue Saint-Marc.

The suggested route has me taking the train from Gare de Lyon to Auber (route A), then walking to the Opera station to proceed on route M8 to Richilieu-Drouot.

After looking at the route map, I think it would be easier to take route M14 from Gare de Lyon directly to Madeleine and change to route M8 toward Creteil-Prefecture and get off at Grands Boulevards. That way, we wouldn%26#39;t have to walk from Auber to Madeleine with our luggage.

Can this be done? Does this make more sense or should I stick to the route suggested by the RATP website?

I agree that the Opéra/Auber route looks a bit clunky. There are a few alternatives that look better at least on paper of which your alternative is one. There is no route that does not involve at least one change...

Unless, that is, you were to take the #20 bus from right beside Gare de Lyon to the corner of bv. Montmartre/bv. Poissonière and rue Vivienne. The bus begins its journey ar GdL so you should have no problem finding seats and room for your luggage. FYI the route ends at Gare St. Lazare.

I will certainly check out the bus option. I wasn%26#39;t thinking of taking a bus as I thought it might be difficult to board with our luggage.

Although the bus route seems more direct, I am wondering if frequent stops and traffic will make the journey rather long.

The bus should take about 25 minutes at a guess. Any of the métro routes including transfers and walking time with luggage would probably take close to 20 minutes. Of course there is always the possibility of a traffic jam but that%26#39;s not a high probability unless you are travelling at rush hour — in which case I%26#39;d avoid the metro anyway. Think of it this way, it%26#39;s almost as good as taking a taxi but for less money.

BTW, I mis-spoke in my earlier post. The bus stop is at the corner of rue Notre Dame des Victoires, a block east of rue Vivienne.

And of course you get the added bonus of seeing what you%26#39;d otherwise be travelling under — place de la Bastille, place de la République and the Grands Boulevards. Take the same bus in the other direction along rue Réaumur from the Bourse and you will pass the Musée des Arts et Métiers, strongly recommended for little boys of all ages and both genders...

Like a lot of Paris bus routes the £20 bus uses a different route when travelling in the other diirection.
