I have been searching for a 3 bedroom aparatment for our family of 6 which will have a double bed in one room and 2 rooms with 2 single beds for 4 teenage/older kids so no one has to sleep on a sofa bed.
Wanting to be as close to the 1st Arrondisement as possible, with lots of shops, cafes/bistros closeby, I have found an apartment that meets our sleeping requirements, but it is located in the 2nd Arrondisement on rue Vivienne, close to rue Montmatre.
There seems to be a few restaurants and shops nearby, but is this location a bit off the beaten track? We will be doing lots of walking while we are there, but don%26#39;t want an apartment that is too far away from touristy areas, especially at night.
Is it safe walking about at night between rue Vivienne and rue Montmartre or rue Montorgueil?

I think the 4th, 5th, or 6th arr. would be a better location than the 1st or 2nd, especially since you have teenagers.
|||
I will check out these areas to see if I can find a 3 BR apartment. What makes you recommend them?
|||
Your central problem is that the center of town has smaller buildings, thus no 3 BR apts. I mean some exist but it gets harder to find in the oldest parts of Paris. You will have to get out of the center to find a larger place.
I love Monorgueil. Rediscovered with a coffee date last week.

I have found many 3BR apartments in the 1st Arr. one almost non-existent or are very expensive.
The apartment I found on rue Vivienne in the 2nd Arr. is quite reasonable, at £1250/week. It is newly remodeled but fairly simple and clean.
Another one I am considering is on rue de Palestro. The interior is more polished and decorated and the location seems to be closer to shops and restaurants. The price is higher at 1995 Euros/week.
Other 3BR apts I have found are either more than 2000 E/week, which I am not willing to spend or do not have the right bed configurations.
I even checked out some in the 4th, 5th or 6th Arr., but I run into the same problem.
So, I keep coming back to these two apartments in the 2nd, knowing that it may not be as desirable, but hoping the location is still convenient to the Louvre/Seine and rue Montmartre/rue Montorgueil, where there seem to be a little more shops/bistros.

If you find nothing else, have a look at vacationinparis.com. They have several three bedroom apts in good locations, and at good prices, but the bed configurations aren%26#39;t exactly what you%26#39;re looking for. Just for instance:

I%26#39;ve rented this 3 bedroom (95m2) apt. Though not luxurious, it was perfectly fine. Very comfy beds and large bedrooms.
At 120 euros per night, it is a great bargain.

I hope you don%26#39;t mind if I ask the question, can%26#39;t the kids share a bed? In other words, if you found an apartment that had the right number of rooms but say a queen bed in the other rooms, couldn%26#39;t they share? Also, double beds in France, at least the ones I%26#39;ve seen, are smaller than we are used to here.

Three bedroom at that price is tough to find. You might want to look at two bedroom places - if they list that they sleep 7 or more then they often have a loft/alcove or something that may work.
An example is www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_136.htm
You could stay pretty much anywhere in the 1st through 7th districts and be ok.

None of our kids are little anymore. Our two daughters, ages 21 and 18, can definitely share a bed but the two boys, ages 22 and 14, are too big to share a sofa bed offered for the 5th or 6th guest in most two BR apts.
The apartment I found on rue Vivienne has two single beds in two of the bedrooms, which would be perfect for the kids. The third bedroom has a double for the parents.
The apartment suits our needs perfectly. I was looking for some advice about what the neighbourhood is like. It is located between Boulevard Montmartre and Rue Saint-Marc.
It%26#39;s about a 10 minute walk south to the Seine/Louvre and about a 10 minute walk west to rue Montoreuil/Les Halles.
There appears to be a few hotels and restaurants, and it is directly across the Passage des Panoramas. It just doesn%26#39;t seem as popular or as trendy as some other areas.
Any input from anyone familiar with this area is greatly appreciated.

jaypea,
Maybe you want to start a new thread about the area itself. Lots of people may not open a thread about 3-bedroom apartments if they have no interest/experience.
From my reading, the area is a good one and the location is convenient, but I have no personal experience. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s off the beaten track though.
Have you tried to %26quot;walk%26quot; your way through the street either on www.pagesjeunes.com or Google?
