Myself( i have been 3 times before but along time ago) and 10 year old daughter(first time) had a wonderful trip to Paris which was enhanced with information gained from this forum. So thank you all for the information and tips.
We flew in from Budapest to Paris Orly and were met by a taxi pre ordered online from Paris Connections. No complaints there, very pleasant driver and he helped us to get our luggage from the conveyor belt and out to his car.
After booking two hotels and canceling both we eventually booked an apartment through Homelidays.
So glad we did, it was spacious and had almost everything we wanted, only snag , it was on the third floor no lift!!
Could not fault it.The owner met us on arrival and on departure. The apartment was 2 mins walk from Duplex station and near shops.
We bought our navigo decovert straight away, but i had lost the pics i have taken with me but found a photo booth at Monoprix not too far away. This pass was invaluable to us as we arrived on a Monday.
I honestly cant remember the order we did everything but the following is what we did and saw.
We went on the Fat Bike tour the first full day. Great fun but a bit scary on the major roads. My impression was that the French cyclists did not like big parties of tourist using their bike lanes and i was pushed side twice by a couple of older unfriendly French. Our only experience of unpleasantness during the trip.
Went on two walking tours with Paris walks both excellent.
We went on a night cruise on the Seine and loved it.
I had a four day museum pass, again invaluable.
Went to The Louvre, Egyptian Exhibition and of course the Mona Lisa, also Napoleons suites, really do not miss this it was fantastic.
Went to Le Orange museum, de Orsay, Roden museum
Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur.
Sainte Chapelle was one of our favorites
Enjoyed a whole day in Monmarte used the vehicular and the little train that goes around the streets. We had my daughters portrait drawn by an Asian/English artist it is wonderful , is now framed an proudly hanging in the hall way.
We saw terrific street entertainment near St Michel,
Watched the Eiffel tower light up from the Trocadero twice, Magical, loved it.
Went up Montparnasse tower, pricey but worth it, especially the outdoor roof view.
Went shopping at Galleries Lafayette. Went to the market at Duplex metro station ,Thursdays and Saturdays, really good, food ,clothes ,jewellery ,fruit ,cheese etc. Certainly worth a visit if you are not too far away.
Went to Luxemberg gardens and Tulleries .
The only thing i would give a miss to was the perfume museum near Opera. It really is just to get you to buy their products after visiting the museum and to be honest it was quite a hard sell and i did not even like the products. Needless to say we did not buy anything and felt it was a waste of our last morning.
We hopped on buses not knowing where they were going and came back again , the driver thought we were crazy but we had fun.
We ate, eclairs, french bread ,quiches, crepes, hotdogs with cheese and all the lovely French take away foods. Berthellion ice cream, although the main shop is closed in August all the surrounding cafes sell it.
The best part for me was hearing my daughter saying WOW so many times as she say so many beautiful paces and things.
On departure We decided to go to Gard De Nord for the Euro Star train by bus from Duplex, dead easy and it saved me E55. We sat in the middle of the bus with our cases, got lots of bad looks and realized as we got of that we were in the seats for mothers with prams!!
Plenty of things for children my daughter was not bored or fed up for one moment, she became the expert on the |metro, telling me when to get off and change etc. We did not see any scams. We loved the buskers in the metro and were happy to see people trying to make a living instead of begging so supported them all.
It was one of the most expensive weeks holiday, i have had for a while, but worth every penny of it.
We are now back in Gambia after being away two months in Europe, still getting used to it again.
thanks agin everyone for the help
sending some sunshine

Thanks for posting. Sounds like you had a great time.
True that the perfume museum is more of a shop than a museum. They do have a small exposition, but I would drop by again only if passing by when in the area.

fj, a nice trip report.
I am really enjoying reading reports at the moment as I am getting excited for my next trip, which is a month away, so thanks indeed!
I like that you went around on the buses, my Mam and I sometimes do that as you get to see the streets and life of Paris.
