While it%26#39;s helpful to browse through TripAdvisor and other sites, first hand knowledge is even better? Anyone have info on the Hotels (looking at Hotel Roissy Lourdes), distances, airport transportation, etc.?

Yes, I spent ten days there. It was magnificent. Although, some of the locals DO NOT like americans. We went as guests of some local officials so it was ok. Beautiful scenery, the mountains are breathe taking and the best pizza I ever had.
I would go back.

We have just returned from Lourdes and it was a wonderful experience that is very hard to explain. We stayed at the Hotel Mercure which was very clean and nice. Our Breakfast and dinner were included. We found the food was very good.
We did try to get crepes for lunch one day at a local restaurant and were told %26quot;Not till tonight!%26quot; We were called stupido for not ordering a large meal as lunch time is the big meal of their day.
Most of the shops are closed for the season but there is still enough to buy what you want. They treat you very nice in the shops. Going in November is good in one way that there are very few people there so you don%26#39;t have to be in long lines and the prices are cheaper but, the down side is that it is very cold and damp. so if you go dress warm and take an umbrella.
I went in the bath which I highly recomend! It is very cold but when you come out, you dress while still dripping wet, and you are all dry and very warm. You feel so good, like floating on a cloud.
Just standing in the grotto gives you a special feeling. Light a candle when you are there and let your prayers linger. It%26#39;s as if you can hear them when you are leaving. I loved being able to walk all over the town and see where Burnadett lived. I never realized just how poor her family was.
I pray everyone who reads this will get to go to Lourdes and have the same expeirence I had. I know you will not be disapointed. May God Bless you.

Just when are you planning on the trip to Lourdes? The weather in July is somewhat akin to Houston on a bad day. It%26#39;s hot and humid and enough to kill you before you can get out of the gratto. This best time of the year is during mid-spring and fall to early winter.
There is an airport in Lourdes, so you are only a few minutes away from the village.
Sorry, but I can%26#39;t help you with the hotel since the only times we%26#39;ve visited we where staying in the Pays Basque or Navarra.

I%26#39;ve been, with the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage. It%26#39;s the most amazing experience, it%26#39;s a fantastic place. I don%26#39;t know what it%26#39;s like to go just to look around, because I was working as a handmaid. It was great, and I got to talk to lots of the sick pilgrims. Their faith is astounding. If you go, definitely go to the grotto late at night, I can%26#39;t even describe how emotional that was. I%26#39;m going again next year. I made a lot of new friends too! Watch out for the low ropes the Italians put up when they%26#39;re in charge of the Torchlight Procession. They%26#39;re like trip wires!

i visited lourdes in May 2004, it was an amazing experience. I stayed at the Hotel Alba, it was really nice the service was great and the food was very good. I did visit the grotto several times and walked in the procession, it was very moving. I have to say the best thing i did while i was there was visit a small town called Garnier(Spelling) we took a coach tour there, it was the most beautiful place i have ever seen in my life. It was in the Pryeneese(spelling?) mountains, the view was absolutely breathtaking and i will never forget the ride up the mountains.Fantastic. It was a most memorable trip..Enjoy!!!

I live in the gascony region of france and have taken my family to lourdes whenever they come. It is very pretty and is at the base of the pyrenee mountains. The region, depending on the direction you take, has been compared to tuscany in italy. There are lots of old beautiful french farms and people lead a relatively calm life surrounded by family, friends, their very good meals (it is the region the most celebrated for good eating), good wine and their peaceful lifestyle. However, when they party, they party from the grandmother to the very youngest in a stroller and the summer festivals in all the little villages are the top. At these little village festivals you can dance the salsa, the two step, or just drink and laugh with people from all over the region until early enough in the morning to step into a %26quot;patisserie%26quot; or %26quot;boulanger%26quot; and buy your %26quot;cressant%26quot; or %26quot;pan au chocolat%26quot;. I hope you will go. The world needs interested and interesting american travellers. We are not all rich and famous and vacations are hard to come by but it will do the world some good to see normal americans travelling, minding their manners, and being good sports!

Having been to Lourdes usually twice a year to work in Lourdes with the UK HCPT or Liverpool Pilgrimage have stayed in many hotels and know the town very well. Tarbes Airport is about 30 mins away and Pau about an hour. Taxi from Tarbes is reasonable. Weather this time of year is poor summer can be unbearable heat wise. Roissy is a good hotel but there are better. Esplanade Eden is my local and the staff good friends of mine though. depends on budget post back and I can help you out

Hi PatLiverpool, could you elaborate on the weather I might expect in late March. I%26#39;m a Canadian and familiar with the unpredictability of weather in the Rocky Mountains, and want to make sure I won%26#39;t run into any nasty surprises in France.
After one does the Bernadette thing (the primary focus for my cousin), do you have any suggestion for things to do and see in and around Lourdes - we will have a car.
Many thanks.

Hi
The weather is v changeable 4 seasons in a day I have been there in March in snow and I have had fine spring weather, I would prepare for any eventuality!
Outside of Lourdes. If you are from the mountains then maybe a drive up to Gavarnie in the Pyrenees. If you take the route out of Lourdes down past the coach car park it is sigposted a not too bad a drive these days about an hour. Also Caut Aretts part of the Tour de France route or Pont d%26#39;Espagne all up in the mountains so cold and snowy! If you fancy a drive further head down to Saint Sebastian over in Spain or west of Lourdes to Biarritz or St Jean de Luz. To be honest most places will be quiet that time of year. When in March will you be there? If you are there Easter week the HCPT pilgrimage from the UK will be there that means a really good week. Lots of helpers with handicapped children very much a fun time
For food and drink in Lourdes 2 nice Italian restuarants on Rue de la Grotte, San Marco does v good portions!!
Depends what you like really. Pau about a 45 minute drive is a hidden gem of a town and Tarbes is good for supermarket shopping all in easy reach.
Make sure you get to the grotto late at night, 2-3 in the morning is a magical time
I will be in Lourdes again in August
Drop a post if you need anymore advice

Thanks Pat, my cousin just sent me an email from Canada, asking about San Sebastian, so your suggestions were very timely. We will be in Lourdes March 20th. I have taken not of your comments about the weather. Thanks so much
Dianne
