I am traveling to France next week with some friends, and we%26#39;ll be driving into Italy. We have one night near Nice and I am looking for advice on where it is best spent: Nice, Villefranche, or Monte Carlo? We are also open to other suggestions. We%26#39;re looking for a pretty beach and a nice town to stroll in for eating, shopping, and casual sight-seeing. We%26#39;ll also need a little night life.
Thanks for any thoughts!

I would spend it in Nice. Villefranche is pretty but not very big. Monte Carlo is not pretty at all.

Vote number 2 for Nice!
Villefranche is beautiful but very small and Monte Carlo is expensive and over-rated unless you plan to spend an evening in the casino.
Nice is a large but beautiful city with lots to see and do and caters to all budgets.
Enjoy!

Thanks!

Another vote for Nice; lovely place, should still be very pleasant for wandering around in the evening. Lovely, bustley pace for an evening out. Enjoy your visit,

One advantage of Villefranche is that you are more or less guaranteed a nights sleep but it is only a ten minute drive from Nice. I stayed two nights in central Nice this week and scooters, including the regular blowing of horns, where still passing beneath my room at 3.30am.
