Our cruise ship will take us to the port of Cannes next week. Our first thought was to just wander around Cannes on our own but I think we are missing out on a lot if we don%26#39;t leave the city.
Is it feasible to get to Eze, Grasse and/or St. Paul de Vence in a day?
Can anyone give me advice on how to travel from one town to the next? I realize I could hire a tour company but would prefer to do it on my own.
Thanks!

I would pick two of the three you have listed and spend half a day in each. For St Paul, take a train to Cagnes sur mer and the 400 bus from the SNCF station there, cost 1 euro each way. Buses are frequent. Then take a further train to Eze and take the 83 bus from the station to the top of the cliff where Eze village is. Theres an info kiosk by the station with times on the door. There is a train ticket called Carte Isabelle that gives you unlimited use of local (TER) trains for one day, cost 12 euro. You can also get to Grasse on this.

I%26#39;d miss out Grasse unless you love perfume, but would make Eze a proirity.
There are a few restaurants dotted around the village, but unless you wish to splash out on the fabulous Chevre D%26#39;or for lunch, my advice would be to take a picnic to eat at the exotic garden at the summit and enjoy the tranquility and the views.

Exactly how long do you have in port?
this is the timetable for the 83 - only 8 buses go up to Eze village from the railway station at Eze bord de mer per day

Depending on the time you have available, I would suggest going to St Paul via Cagnes sur Mer as suggested above , and include Haut de Cagnes (free shuttle bus from Cagnes sur Mer)if you want to see another medieval village. On the way back stop in Antibes if time or look round Cannes itself.
Eze is nice, but will involve a lot of travelling and take up a lot of precious time.. I am not a fan of Grasse.
Next week will be hot and IMO you will enjoy the day more if you try not to do too much.

I don%26#39;t know about the local transport pieces, but when we spent a week in that area a few years ago we went to St. Paul de Vence twice because we so enjoyed it the first day. I agree that unless the perfume factories are important (they are interesting) that you can miss Grasse, Eze was interesting. Enjoy your trip!

We arrive in Port de Cannes at 10:00am and need to be back on the ship at 9:00pm.
After reading thru the responses here I think we will take the train to St. Paul de Vence and skip Eze.
Can someone provide me with some more detailed instructions for how to take the train and then the bus if needed? Or link me to a schedule?
Thanks again!

We did Grasse and St. Paul de Vence in a day (as well as the Medieval town of Tourrettes sur Loup). Renting a car is your only option. Eze is another drive (around the low mountains), but worth it.

The closest train station to St. Paul de Vence is Cagnes Sur Mer. From there you take the 400 bus to St. Paul. This is the same bus that comes from Nice, but I think taking the train to Cagnes Sur Mer will be faster than picking up the bus in Nice.
When you come out of the Cagnes Sur Mer station, walk to your right through a small covered parking area. Once on the sidewalk, go up a small hill and over the bridge. You%26#39;ll see a park on your right and the bus stop is across the street.
Your wait will depend upon how your train and bus schedules link. I have waited as long as 45 minutes and as short as ten. Be patient...St. Paul is worth it!
You can also take the same train to visit Eze, another mountaintop village. Get off the train at the Eze de Bord station. When you come out of the station, go up a hill and the bus stop is on the same side of the street as the station. I can%26#39;t remember the bus number...visit the Eze forum and I%26#39;m sure it has been discussed there.
Have a wonderful trip!

Hello, Are the buses and train frequent on Sundays? Will be there Sept 27th from the cruise port. SO far the only car rental company I can find is Hertz. The rest either close very early or are not open. Any help. Want to go to SVP. Also clueless on a nice resturant for lunch?? Medium range price, to eat and have wine. Thank you Madelon
