perfect picture with arc de triomphe

Hi all of you parisians,

I saw a picture of my friend standing in the middle of the road in paris with arc de triomphe as a backdrop. Is this possible to do? I mean won%26#39;t you get run down by the throngs of cars or even perhaps arrested or something.

Reason I ask is I%26#39;m going to Paris myself and would love just the most perfect picture of myself with arc de triomphe as the background. Any suggestions on how to do this safely?

I cant see how anyone could stand in the roundabout part of the street because the traffic never stops coming from one way or the other.

Unless it was very early or late in the day perhaps.

Saying that, there is a way of doing it thats relatively safe.

Just as you approach the Arc there is a set of traffic lights.

You can easily stand just past those in the road with the Arc behind you and a friend taking your photograph.

Check out this pic i took to see what i mean...

I can%26#39;t possibly see how this could be done by yourself, however, I have several of the pics you are describing. The Champs is a multi lane boulevard, atlease 6 lanes if not 8. In the middle of the road, there is a point at which you can stand if you don%26#39;t make it all the way across before the walk signal stops you. Mind you, it is not a very wide spot, and the cars zip right past you, but it is a definite somewhat guarded spot that you are pretty safe to stand in until the light changes. You can get great shots of the Arc. I say go for it, just make sure to cross the road at one of those spots and it should be fine. The only problem I can think you would have is finding someone to take a picture in that location.

When there is a lull in the traffic, you can get to a traffic island at Champ Elysee and have a pic taken.

If you check my review of the Arc de Triomphe I took a picture of the Arc at Sunset from Champ Elysee.

In fact, it is easily done. Cross the Champs-Elysées at the first crosswalk down from the Arc de Triomphe, well away from the roundabout. On the Champs-Elysées, there will be a barrier in the exact middle of the street where you can stand and still be protected from traffic passing on either side of you. You only need to stand in front of the barrier while someone takes your photo, and with all of the other tourist there doing the same thing, it is not too difficult to find someone to take your photo, if you take theirs. You will end up with a great photo of yourself standing in front of the Arc de Triomphe, with traffic whizzing by on either side of you.

It is extremely easy. Every crosswalk has a narrow central island in the middle of the Champs Elysées. You can spend all day there if you want. Tens of thousands of tourists take their photos there.

Cross into the median at the Blvd. You will actually

have a bit of space to put your back to the

Arc de Triomphe and have someone snap your picture.

I have done this with my kids 3 years in a row now.

Have fun

You can get a great picture of the Arc the Triomph in the background when you come out of the tunnel I have taken several pictures there of my wife and ones of both of us using a Canon 400d wide lens and a remote key. Or you can go over to the restaurants at the metro exit facing the Trocadero and do the same I also have photos taking during the Tour de France with me standing in the middle of the Champs Elysees so yes it is possible to get the shot that that you want you just have to be patience and look from all angles.
