It%26#39;s about 15 miles/25 km from LYS to the Part Dieu station in Lyon. Take the airport shuttle (Navette Aéroport). They run about every 15 minutes and the fare is around €9.

From Part Dieu there are fairly frequent non-stop TGVs to Montpellier taking a bit less than two hours. Trains requiring a change take anywhere from 2-3 hours.

Easiest place to research timetables is bahn.de but you can%26#39;t book there. If you want to check fares/book go to voyages-sncf.com There may be no advantage to booking at this point as you will more than likely pay the same price if you buy your ticket at the station when you get there. If you can handle the French stick with the voyages-sncf site. If you click away to the English language version you may not see the best fares.

There is a TGV station at Lyon Saint Exupéry airport.

Here is the timetable for September 4/5 :

I did look at the options from St. Éxupéry but I did not see any direct trains to Montpellier and most of what I did see was taking four hours or longer. Perhaps I missed something and for sure the OP should check that option out when she — I assume dublingrace is a she — gets to LYS.

Thank you everyone for your very usful advice. Looks like I wont get non stop train and probably should have flown into girona or marseilly, carcasson didnt suit my times.

ps yes ! I am a %26quot;she%26quot;

Dublingrance, yes there are a lot of direct TGV to Montpellier from La Part-Dieu train station, the train ride is a very comfortable 1 hour and 45 minutes trip. And the airport shuttle is very convenient: there is a shuttle every 10%26#39; in peak hours and it stops right in front of the train station (easier in my opinion to get from Lyon airport to the train station than from Girona to Barcelona -took us more than 1 hour by bus!- or even from Marignane to Marseille!).

Check the TGV schedules and buy your tickets on SNCF website, you%26#39;ll get the best fares:

No wonder, Girona to Barcelona is over 90 km ! :-)

Hi, I have managed to book my tickets from lyon to montpelier, but have to change at valence, am wondering what happens if I manage to get on an earlier train, will my existing ticket suffice or do I have to buy a new one... It would be lovely to have that flexibility, and maybe not to have to change stations, which would be great with all the luggage I am bringing. thanks in anticipation....

|||

I%26#39;m being nosy here, Dublingrace - all that luggage for just 2 days!?

Jo

PS : on weekdays, there are also 3 flights daily from Lyon to Montpellier...
