Can anyone tell me how to get from the airport in Bergerac to Vergt-Biron near Monpazier in late August.
Car rental is not an option, is there public tranportation or bus service of sorts that goes through the area ?
|||
You might be able to find a private driver, but I%26#39;m not sure.
Since you%26#39;re talking a trip of a couple of hours, public transportation is going to be a challenge at the very least, and not recommended.

Oh Bergerac to Vergt-Biron is a couple of hours - I thought it was only 45 km?
I would rent a car but can%26#39;t drive stick shift and it seems all the cars in Bergerac are standard transmission.
Would a taxi drive there? and if so how expensive?
|||
Sorry, my mistake -- it is 45 km, but viamichelin.com says 45 minutes-- that%26#39;s probably not too far off the mark. viaMichelin%26#39;s drive times are usually pretty accurate.
There are no motorways on that route - it%26#39;s all windy country roads -- paved and very safe, but definitely country roads.
You%26#39;ll also be pretty much marooned in Biron without a car -- I know local transport exists, but don%26#39;t know the schedules.

I was in that general area recently.
The Trans-Perigord bus map
cg24.fr/FCKeditor/upload/file/pdf/transperig…
shows there is no regular bus service from Bergerac to anywhere near Monpazier or Vergt-Biron.
I have not been able to find any evidence of any other buses in the area, which just falls into the Lot-et-Garonne department. That department%26#39;s website, under transports, simply provides a link to %26#39;Yellow Pages%26#39; for bus hire companies.
In my experience this very rural area is almost totally devoid of regular bus service.

Thank you all so much for your clarifications. I was having a hard time finding info online. So no busses or TER for me.
What about taxi? or car rental with automatic transmission?
I will be meeting up with friends and staying with them at Vergt-Biron. They will have a car for the duration of our stay, but as I arrive from Bergerac airport on Ryanair, they will be driving in from Bordeaux train station and can%26#39;t pick me up.
|||
They have to pass more or less right past Bergerac to get to Biron -- so yes, they could pick you up -- since it%26#39;s 45 minutes, it%26#39;s also not out of reach to come and pick you up if you arrive after them...
There are plenty of hotels near the Bergerac airport if you need to stay a night until they catch up (you CAN get a bus into Bergerac, which is charming and worth a visit).
But with essentially no public transportation, you will either have to pay a private driver, wait for your friends, or take a crash-course (hopefully not literally!) in driving a manual transmission.

Here%26#39;s a website that might help:
http://www.bergerac-airport.net/Access/
As you can see taxis are there awaiting the arrival of flights. If you prefer to pre-book I%26#39;d suggest you phone the number provided.
The most direct route by road to Vergt-Biron from Bordeaux goes via Bergerac.

and no, there%26#39;s not a regular taxi.
I%26#39;m not sure you really realize how very far out in the middle of nowhere this is -- we%26#39;ve been there a number of times, and it%26#39;s lovely and I look forward to returning....but there%26#39;s no way I%26#39;d attempt it without a car.

hi yowyul,
Can you give me a date as I%26#39;m taking a friend back to Bergerac on 30 August and it may be possible to meet you and take you there.
|||
My goodness you are too sweet
thank you for suggesting you give me a ride from the Bergerac airport. So generous. thank you.
I land on Monday the 31st so that%26#39;s not the right day but I do believe my friend%26#39;s mother might be able to pick me up at the airport. I have my fingers crossed.
Thank you everyone for all your advice
