Tip Question

As part of our transfer service, an escort will meet us at the gate, help us through customs, and I assume take us to the van which will take us to our hotel.

What should we tip the escort? 10% of the transfer cost? More? We have never had this type of service.

Thank you for your help.

There is no need to tip for any service in France: your escort will be paid a proper wage and does not need to rely on tips to make a living.

Maybe a few euros if the service is extra good.

I second sydneynick%26#39;s advice.

I had a private transfer that I paid 55 euros to,, and I tipped 5 euros.

I would like to know how this service is able to have staff members access the secure areas of the airport,, I have never heard of a transfer service employee who could meet you BEFORE customs.??

You may want to check reviews for the transfer service you plan to use. I have never seen %26quot;escorts%26quot; in the arrival gate areas and doubt they can get through security to meet you there. Are you sure about this? Do you know what to do if your escort isn%26#39;t there to meet you for some reason?

You really do not need help through Customs. It%26#39;s passport control, and all you do is show your passport give them the form you%26#39;ve been provided on the plane (if this is still being done).

It%26#39;s really not necessary to tip. But, you can, if you like, assuming they meet you as agreed, drive safely, handle your bags, are friendly and polite. A tip of 10% would be generous.

I don%26#39;t think it is a good idea to drag American tipping customs along on vacations to foreign countries. When in Rome ............

You are talking about %26quot;escort%26quot; and helping you thru entry etc. I don%26#39;t think that is going to happen. You will be on your own. These drivers etc usually wait right by the exit door from baggage holding up their signs. They are blocked off by a %26quot;fence%26quot; like blockade if that%26#39;s what you call it.

I have been %26quot;escorted %26quot; by an airport staff from the gate area to the customs area a couple of times when I --traveling standby--couldn%26#39;t get on the plane.

The fun part is having to fill up a card for the customs and answer the usual questions %26quot; how long have you been away from the country%26quot;, %26quot;did you bought anything%26quot; etc. etc. by a custom agent who has just been told by the escort that you haven%26#39;t actually left the airport..

My daughters get this service all the time, as minors. When a teen visited us and left customs without her bags, they had no problem letting us go back in to claim her bags, knowing full well I hadn%26#39;t been on any flight.

I%26#39;ve also enjoyed this service several times as a paying customer in other countries. So I know that it exists.

But I%26#39;ve never seen it being offered here in Paris. If they do have it here, please let me know. It would be perfect for a friend of mine who often hosts foreign visitors in a professional capacity.

Air France does provide the UM (Unaccompanied Minors) service. It is especially aimed at under 12s but can be bought for teens between 12 and 18.

I guess that other major airlines flying to/from Paris provide a similar service.
