Restaurants in Les Batignolles-17th Arrondissement

My wife and I would appreciate any suggestions re. restaurants in above or nearby-preferably modestly priced. We also would like suggestions on boulangeries, patisseries, and supermarkets. We shall be staying in an apartment on Rue Truffaut.

You will be near the market street of rue des Moines, with a very good bakery on the corner of that street and the avenue de Clichy (Damiani), and another in the rue des Moines, closer to the square des Batignolles that always has a long line. There is a covered market, too, with a grocery store in it, and a Franprix grocery store in rue des Moines.

There are quite a few restaurants in the area. If you feel like splurging, le Bistral is very good. I would avoid the Mexican/Indian in rue des Dames, and Aubergine near there gets mixed reviews.

Oh, I forgot. Le Pot Lisson (28 rue Truffaut) does good Burgundian/Lyonnais food, and if you feel like a change, La Gaité Cosaque (6 rue Truffaut) is reasonable, good Russian. The North African restaurant almost at the corner of rue Truffaut and rue des Dames does a good tagine, too.

Louie LI, Thanks so much for your advice. We shall certainly try those places you recommend. If you or others, have any further thoughts, we would surely welcome them.

Brasserie Wepler on Pl.de Clichy is only a few metres ouside the 17th. Excellent sea food.

Thank you for your recommendations and warnings, as well. Maybe you also have some good thoughts about cafes or %26quot;must-do%26#39;s%26quot; in the area. Would be very welcome.

Au petit potager is at 24 rue des Dames. It%26#39;s a small place with no menu. They offer whatever the chef felt like cooking that day. It%26#39;s nothing fancy, but it%26#39;s all homemade.

I also liked Fuxia for Italian at 69 place du docteur F. Lobligeois near Square des Batignolles. There are other locations throughout Paris. I sat outside for lunch and had their lasagna which was quite good.

I also liked a cafe on rue de la Terrasse, just off rue de Levis. I don%26#39;t remember the name, but it%26#39;s on the left in the first block off rue de Levis.

Rue de Levis is a market street with several patisseries, boucheries, traiteurs, fromageries, etc. It also has a Monoprix.

Le Relais De Venice is my absolute favorite in Paris and is in the 17th. It is near the Porte Maillot metro stop. They have a website: www.relaisdevenise.com

They are inexpensive and you don%26#39;t have to worry about reservations, because they don%26#39;t take them. You will have to wait in line, because it is so popular. They offer a no choice menu of steak fritas with the best sauce I have ever tasted.

I%26#39;m not sure where you%26#39;re located in the 17th, but there is a Monoprix near Ternes metro stop that we%26#39;ve picked up groceries at in the past.

Enjoy your trip!

I%26#39;ve had friends stay at a place on rue Truffaut and they loved it. Their landlord has a great site with local suggestions... enjoy.

This is the only place in Paris where I%26#39;ve actually seen a genuine pink poodle. Made my year!

Thank you all for your thoughts on this. My mouth is already watering. Although it%26#39;s still about 50 days away, I%26#39;m beginning to taste Paris.
