Rental Car or Train on Paris - Alsace Itenary

Our itenary is Paris (CDG) to Epernay to Hesse (pickup a canal boat). Bottzhiem (return boat). Travel to Colmar. And then return to Paris. Are we better off to rent a car from CDG for the CDG/Epernay / Hesse leg, and then have the boat chater company move the car to Bootzheim and then drive the car to Colmar and paris, or would it be better to take the train? Rental of car is about $500 plus $100 for transportation from Hesse and Bootzhiem. For four people, its only $150 pp, which I%26#39;m guessing is cheaper than the train?

I had a look at train fares for Paris-Sarrebourg and Colmar-Paris for a date about 3 months away. Between 30-40€ to Sarrebourg and 40-70€ back from Colmar (though I didn%26#39;t calculate for the stop-off in Champagne). For 4 people it%26#39;s probably fairly close - have you factored in the cost of fuel and tolls for the car journey? And is the rental company OK about their car being moved by someone from the boat hire company (will they need licence details for him/her?)

You might have these sites already, but if not, they are all useful:
