I will be in Paris next week and unfortunately, the only day I am able to visit the D%26#39;Orsay is on Tuesday. I know it will be busy since the Louvre is closed. Can anyone advise if it will be better to go when it opens or to go around 2:00 pm? Also, is it realistic to think the line with a museum pass will be less than 30 minutes on a Tuesday?
Thank you in advance.

With a museum pass, you use the separate entrance for advance ticket holders.
A limited number of people are allowed into the museum, but it can still be very crowded.
It%26#39;s a good idea to head for the back of the museum and take the escalators to the top, then visit from the top floor down.
The rest rooms near the restaurants typically have very long lines, so have a floor plan handy for the locations of the others.
The restaurants are also always very busy, especially the cafe.

I was there on a Tuesday 3 weeks ago.
Got there early around 10.00am, bought my museum pass and joined the pre ticket line of around 70-80 people and was inside 12 minutes later.
Not ticket line was around 400 deep.

for people who are in Paris for several days and don%26#39;t want to buy a museum pass to skip the line at the D%26#39;Orsay --
you can go by on another day and buy a ticket at the little office on the wall to the left of the main entrance -- this ticket is good for one year but NOT the day you buy it -- we often pick one up when we are in the area and then use it whenever the mood strikes (or it rains)
you go to the museum pass/pre-ticket entrance and skip the main line

Thank you, Graceh9, for this very useful bit of information. I leave tomorrow morning for two weeks in Paris, and just when I thought I had all needed information organized, along comes a great tip like this! Guess I%26#39;ll keep reading and updating my list through the day!

I was at the Musee d%26#39;Orsay on a Tuesday a little over a month ago. We went first thing in the morning and the crowds weren%26#39;t bad at all. Once inside we went up to the top floor and worked our way down. By the time we made it out of there after lunch the crowds had definitely increased. I highly recommend getting there early in the day rather than later.
And enjoy! It%26#39;s such a wonderful museum. I just hope that one day I can go back there. Have a fabulous trip.
