London and Paris Visit

Hi

I am going to be travellling to London and Paris in January 2010 on a stopover at Frankfurt airport. It will be 3.5 days London and 3.5 days Paris.

I am planning a flight from Frankfurt to London with BA, staying at Travelodge Southwark. Then to Paris vis Eurostar to Gare Nord. Staying at Kyriad Broncion Paris. Then from Paris on to Frankfurt vis ICE.

How soon should one start booking ticks? Will I get cheaper deals towards December or should I book now? Are there any comments on the hotels I am staying at?

Also there is very little information on getting about in Paris. The metro websites appears to be in French. How do I determine the various routes to get from Gare DU nord to my Hotel and from my Hotel to various sites.

Is it advanatageous to buy a Travelcard in London and a Museum Pass and Carte Orange? Should I buy it when I get there? I realize this is a Paris forum so I will post the London enquiries in the London forum.

Many thanks

Hi,

Try http://www.transilien.com/web/site for guidance on metro tickets and maps.

Sorry I can%26#39;t help you with any of the other questions but I am sure someone more knowledgeable will

Check out for great info on travel by Eurostar

http://www.seat61.com/

the seats are like airline seats so the sooner you book the better price you will get. You can book up to 120 days out and may find a better price on the UK site.

http://parisbytrain.com/ is another great site with photos and info on transportation

3 months before your travel date.

The earlier you book, the better the price.

The website is www.ratp.com Click on the icon %26quot;plan interactif%26quot; and you%26#39;ll have an interactive metro map of the city. By double clicking on your originating station, selecting the green flay, and next double clicking on your destination station and selecting the red flag, a proposed itinerary including en route time and cost will be available on a slide up screen in the bottom left corner of your screen.

You might be able to purchase a Navigo Découverte/carte orange card in London but there is no real advantage. These are sold beginning on Wednesday for use the following Monday through Sunday. Additional information is available here:

Thanks guys for your messages. The tips on this forum are great!!

The Brancion doesn%26#39;t have the greatest reviews on this site. You should check those out. The neighborhood (15th arr) is pleasant but a bit out of the way for a 3 day stay.

Just to clear up any possible confusion, Eurostar tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance, TGV tickets up to 90 days ahead.

There may well be better travel pass options for you in Paris than the ND/CO. It depends in part what day of the week you will be arriving in Paris and where you will be going during your visit.

I don%26#39;t suppose I could persuade you to spend six days in either Paris or London and make a day trip (perfectly doable with Eurostar) to the other? 3.5 days is not really enough IMO for either city. OTOH if you don%26#39;t think you will ever return, a little is better than nothing. Just don%26#39;t try to see all there is to see in either city in such a short span of time.
